Hidden Help (series)

This body of work focuses on the dynamics of African-American women as domestic workers for white families during the civil rights era. The recreated tableware such as bowls, cups, pitchers, and plates were created using clay and synthetic locs symbolizing the integral presence of black women. During this era, nearly all (90%) of black women worked as domestic servants yet their impact and significance has been overlooked and undermined.
